The Australian Open has ended down under but the memories will remain forever. Remember that time when a fan casually walked onto the court and and meandered around for a bit without anyone taking notice or seeming to care? Good times! After all, when has a fan ever done anything untoward to a tennis player

pablo-sandoval-sharks

On Thursday Pablo Sandoval dropped the first puck before the Blackhawks/Sharks game, which normally would be rather unremarkable. However, because he's been playing in the Venezualan winter league, and his squad, Navegantes del Magallanes was supposed to play the final game of the championship series tonight seemed he might be spreading himself too thin.

Thanks to a a special flight arranged by the government  and a quick helicopter ride from the airport the Kung-Fu Panda made the game just in time. He logged approximately 7,600 miles in the round-trip journey. It should be noted that Navegantes del Magallanes is President Hugo Chavez's favorite team.

It's good to be the Grand Emperor.

I hope your Friday and weekend plans rock as much as this picture of Mike Piazza's golf bag, because his bag ROCKS! This photo from Metsgrrl shows that Piazza may not have the mullet any longer, but he hasn't lost his 80s rocker mentality.

He won that in a raffle right?

john-daly-zebra-pantsJohn Daly is never one for societal conventions, like when smokes and drinks his way through golf practice rounds, so we shouldn't be SHOCKED to see his latest outfit on the links. Then again, it's not often you see a man in zebra pants either.

Considering he's lost a massive amount of weight and is in much better shape, presumably Daly just wants to show off what the good lord gave him. Who could blame that.

Besides, someone who pays attention to Snuggie commercials to help figure out what is stylish and chic these days is A-OK in my book.

In Dwight Howard's defense, the ref WAS wide-open...

harricks_pere_and_fils_courtside_smallLast year Jim Harrick Jr. was forced to resign amidst a series of allegations against him and the University of Georgia's basketball team. One of the bigger outstanding issues against Harrick, who served as an assistant on his father's coaching staff, was his "Coaching Principles and Strategies in Basketball" class.

The loftily titled course was considered one of easiest classes on campus and several of the Bulldogs' basketball players were enrolled in it. And why not, Harrick was not very strict about things like actually attending the class or even taking the one test for the semester. Then again, with such brain-teaser questions as he had on it, who could blame the no-shows. Some of the questions include:

"How many points does a 3-point field goal account for in a Basketball Game?"

"How many halves in a college basketball game?"

"Diagram the 3-point line"

"In your opinion, who is the best Division 1 Assistant Coach in the country?"

I give up, I am STUMPED!

Click the link below to see the full test in all its glory, and even better, the course syllabus!

The Mark McGwire story has somewhat died down, mostly because once he admitted (and continued lying) the story really didn't have anywhere to go. However, the incredibly funny guys behind Greg and Lou made this sketch and I'd be a horrible person to let it go, not just because I know them, but because, hey, it's FUNNY!

I especially like the crawl on the bottom and the one that says the Pittsburgh Penguins goalie got into a head-on car collision and will "miss rest of season, life."

The Tiger Woods story won't completely fade away, mainly because now as many scumbags as possible are trying to get in on the action and make some cash off of it. For instance, the douches behind Tailofthetiger.com saw dollar signs and so have made a set of 12 golf balls emblazoned, badly, with poor cartoon versions of Tiger's paramours.

I'm all for entrepreneurship but this is just sleazy and cheap. Also lame!

They aren't the only ones to look to take advantage of the situation and Tiger's newfound notoriety. The Deja Vu Showgirls strip club in San Diego has taken to flying a banner around Torrey Pines where the PGA is this weekend with the message: "We Miss You Tiger...Deja Vu Showgirls."

When you think college football, Eastern Washington is probably the FIRST school you think of right? No? Weird.

Well, their actions on the field may not be memorable, Eastern Washington hopes to stand out in your mind for another reason, their field. To that end, they are copying the idea behind Boise State's unique blue field and intend to install their own new red field before play next year.

"There is no doubt that one of Boise State's claims to fame has been their blue turf and like it or dislike it, it has certainly brought them a tremendous amount of notoriety," EWU athletic director Bill Chaves said. "In a similar vein we have a tremendous opportunity at Eastern to do the same by differentiating ourselves with the red turf while providing a superior playing surface."

That has to be the stupidest looking thing I've seen all week.

Ah local news, is there no story too small for you to cover? For instance, here is Fox 29 bringing you one of the most important stories this Super Bowl week, what one fan will do in order to get tickets to big game. Specifically, he'd give his left nut. Or so he claims on Craigslist.

Of course, he won't give the testicle up until AFTER the game, good luck trying to collect on that one...
